Hi Marni, do you know if "Maxillaria turkeliae" is named after you? IOSPE says its named after an orchid enthusiast in california, sounds like you. :)

Yes, Eric Christenson named this and several other species after me.

Hello Marni, I have seeds of the Platanthera ciliaris, unfortunately it is very bad to sow in vitro without the appropriate fungus. Do you know how to germinate them?
thanks and greetings from switzerland peter sends

Good morning Marni. Several days ago I submitted, what I thought would be an interesting image of Vanda coerulea with back-up information.
Since I have had no feedback I must have placed it in the wrong section. I hope that you may be able to rectify my problem.
      Bernard McDonald.

Bernard, I was just about to go out and check my Vanda coerulea to see how it measured up to your description. I have moved this to the Orchid Species forum where it should get more views. Thanks for the post.

Marni, I would love to pick you brain about my phalaenopsis orchid and the difference between a terminal spike and a keiki. I cannot seem to figure out the difference or identify what is growing from my plant. Thanks in advance!

I just posted an answer before I saw this. I don't grow a lot of phals, but I think more people on the forum will be able to contribute too.

Hi Marni. I'm from Brazil and new to this Forum. I loved the photos of Promenaea guttata you post. Congratulations. Most Promenaea species are somehow difficult to find out in Brazil, a paradox, isn't that?!.

Marni: I don't know if I'm ready to deal with plants right out of the flask. Is it very difficult/any special considerations? How many years to bloom? I'm a senior citizen. God I crack myself up.

        Marni
Lycastes are not easy to get out of flask. I'd say 3 to 5 years to bloom. I too am a senior citizen and still making crosses.

Marni: You seem to be the go to gal for Lycaste Skinneri Alba. Do you have any of these plants for sale?
I'm losing my mind trying to find it. My wife's from Guatemala and I'll be there 6/21/17 but I'm told you can't buy them. It's illegal as it's the national flower. No wonder my brother in law gave me "alba" cuff links. lol

I only sell plants on ebay, but I do sell flasks and I have skinneri alba in flask. Not sure if I have any that are ready to come out of flask, but if you would be interested, I could check.

I don't think it isn't illegal to buy them, it is probably illegal take it out of the country.

The bulbs are not mushy but not firm. They are rather soft and more yellowish.
Would you cut it off? I have only one green bulb left.
The new growth has had all melted down.

Bulbo.elisae(pinapple shaped bulbs) has lost all leaves and there is only one bulb look healthy and green (all others are yellow and not firm). Shall I cut off the healthy ONE off from the lest of them?
      1. Marni
        Marni
That is a difficult question. If the back bulbs are soft and mushy I would cut them off. If they feel dry and perhaps hollow I would leave them alone. If it survives, try giving it a somewhat drier colder winter and a warm wet summer.

      Marni,Hi !
A favor to ask of you; A friend from Greece is visiting the west coast (on business), and asked me if I know any worthwhile orchid/botanical gardens/retail places to visit. He'll be in SanDiego,S.F.,L.A..
I've never been to the west coast,so I don't know any places other than the S.Diego zoo!
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Marni ! I have a great wish : could you tell me the exact conditions of growing Maxillaria platypetala, please !
Peruflora is coming to EU and I would like to order it.
My problem with M. sanderiana was, that I watered it in wrong way ( or I did something else wrong ), I killed it after 1year! Very sad ! Now would not like to repeat it !
Thank you in advance ! Best regards
      Andreja (Slovenija)
