I bought this acrylic/plexiglass display shelf from craigslist. I plan to make it into a wardian case out of it after making a few adjustments. Wish me luck! Screenshot_2017-01-04-19-00-27 (2).png

I will definitely takes pics along the way and get all the specs. I hoping I can make it cool to intermediate terrarium so I can move my Restrepias and things in.

Jai, I will be following the development, I want to learn all I can about how these things come together successfully. I have thought about doing one in the future. I am sure you will come up with very creative solutions along the way.

Jai, something you should consider right off the top is lighting.

With an enclosure that tall, you're likely to have difficulty providing sufficient light at the bottom if all of the light is from the top. Both shadows and the inverse-square law work against you.

One elegant solution I have seen was to use hidden pockets in the underside of a man made "branch" to house LEDs that illuminated lower parts of the enclosure. Plants were mounted on it, too.

"Any" LED? Maybe not. Let's not forget that there is a whole spectrum of White LED's, ranging from "possible, but not the best," to "great."

Yes, orchids may be grown under artificial light, as can any plant. It's just a matter of finding the right spectrum and intensity.

Do some searching here. Naoki and others have posted some really good information.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I will lay the case on its side because of lighting.
