    Howdy Orchid PPL,
Hope you are having a great Easter weekend... Im having a sow bug (rolly polly) problem and just got some Ortho Max veggie and fruit (Acetamiprid) and just wanted to make sure it wont affect my nice green root tips on the Cattleyas and Angraecoids, everything Im reading on the internet seems promising, has anyone tried this product? I also found a slug hiding in the roots of my Angraecum longicalcar, I stabbed him to death with the sharp end of a bamboo support, but Im sure he has friends, so Im hoping this will take care them too...

Thanks in advance for any help!
    David

I don't know it. Is it sold under a brand name?

Have you tried Sevin? It should do the trick and is fine on orchids.

i just read the label for the ortho product and i did not see sow bugs listed. this means they will not be controlled by the product.....

    Sevin works, and it's inexpensive.

Not necessarily true. It may just mean the registrant didn't use sow bugs in it's field trials.

right on. one thing i see sometimes is people thinkin' that because it's an insecticide, it'll kill all insects which of course, isn't true....

i think there's a product called sluggo plus that's supposed to control slugs, snails and sow bugs.

Thanks for all the replies... so I was brave and tried it out, I have lots of dead rolly pollies, havent seen a live one this afternoon or evening... I guess I have prescribed it for "off label" usage, haha.

Seems to be the consensus is sevin tho, so next time I need to buy an insecticide, thats probly the way Ill go, the liquid sevin sat right beside this product, the warning about burning plants that are wet kinda scared me off, but now that I know its safe thats the way I'll go. Logic would dictate that I ask questions before I purchase... I guess Im not always so logical, lol.

Burning wet plants? Interesting. I'll have to re-evaluate that product...
