This is the first time I have bloomed this plant. It is labeled beyrodtiana but is much darker than the usual. I do know that it smells as bad to me as the other species I've bloomed. A few years ago I found I could grow acinetas and started collecting some. Then I started blooming them and found I really don't like the fragrance. But fortunately, the flowers are short lived so it is over in a few days. I think my Acineta days are over. If anyone thinks I have the wrong name, please speak up.

Great flowers, and lots of them. Sorry they're short lived & unpleasantly scented.
I've never "seen" one in bloom before.
    Thank you!

Thanks for sharing so the rest of us don't have to sniff them to enjoy the beauty!

If I had seen it with out a name I would have suggested it was close to Acineta superba?

Craig, there is a reason that I have a question mark after the name. I really don't know this genus. It came labeled this way. A friend look at it and said that it looked right for A.beryodtiana but the others he has seen were lighter. Also, that it was similar to suberba but that has a more "pinched" lip and a different background color. Eric Christenson did an article in Orchid Digest a few years ago that I should dig out. Thanks for looking.

    Hey Marni,
Doing a quick google the pictures shows the average form of beyrodtiana is certainly paler. The central lobe of the lip on yours is far more prominant than the other pic's I looked at though. Hell maybe its a Hybrid???
What ever it is you've grown it beautifully:clap:

Dale sent me a picture of his A superba off list that looks just like this one as far as structure goes. I looked in the Colombian books (easier than digging through old OD issues) and this pretty much looks like A suberba. Sure smells like it. Thanks for the help with this.

Wow, imagine that. A mislabeled plant from Ecuagenera.
