I have a lovely LC Firedance that has either suffered rot on new pseudobulb growths from water or calcium deficiency.

Initially, only the very tips of the new pseudobulbs were dark. It has since progressed. I attempted to cut off the black tissue, but now it has almost turned completely black.

What action should I take? I'm thinking I need to amputate the bulb in case it is black rot.

    Thoughts please!

Yes, I think it would be wise to remove that.

You're example photos focused on a calcium deficiency, so may I ask about the mineral content and your fertilizer use?

Thank you fir your response Ray.

I should have noted that the photo of the blackened tip on a new pseudobulb is not my plant buts photo I found online which looks like the initial stage.

Unfortunately, as I am new to orchids (but learning very quickly), I had not provided any supplemental nutrients since I got the plant in April. I just fertilized it with orchid fertilizer for the first time yesterday. When I learned that Cats can suffer from calcium deficiency (and that this was possibly the root cause of the black funk) I added some oyster shell to the mix.

I would welcome any suggestions toucan offer.
