Has anyone gotten plants from this gentleman (Gary Meyer), and if so would you order again? He has a phenomenal list with some hard to find species and his terms seem very accommodating (no minimum order, shipping greater of $12 or 15% of total). Is this too good to be true? Thanks for sharing your impressions!

I was in on one of the first imports, and the plants were HUGE and healthy. That was a few years ago, however, and I'm not sure if the plants are the same size and quality. I know Gary cares about quality, so I'd guess the plants are all still healthy. I can't see how the plants could still be that large, though. I mean, I got a few specimens out of it. It just seems impractical that he could comtinue doing business while selling such large plants for such good prices.

Thanks for the info, Jon! I might order a couple of small things, I've got a birthday coming up soon... :D

I frequently get plants through Gary and am never disappointed. He is very conscientious.

Thanks Marni and Dave! Along with your and Jon's opinions I googled up some on other forums, all equally positive. I'm definitely going to get in on the spring importation, Gary offers a lot of Stanhopeinae species I've never seen for sale elsewhere. Anyone have recommendations on fragrant miniature ones that don't need as much light?

I've ordered a lot of plants from Gary, and they're always large healthy plants, at reasonable prices. They're worth waiting for!

Y'all made me look. I couldn't buy birdseed for a cuckoo clock, but I'm gonna have to order a few things. Damn it.

Well shoot, now I'm really glad I asked! Always happy to inspire others to acquire more orchids...

Dale and Marni, I notice that you both seem to have (or had) Sievekingia reichenbachiana. Is this one tricky in any way? I've got a couple of Stanhopea seedlings (jenischiana and Assidensis) that grow like weeds though they're still too little to bloom, will the Sievekingia appreciate similar culture? Maybe I should just start a new thread...

Thanks to everyone who's chimed in on this one so far!

Sheesh, Nat, since you started this thread and made Dale place an order, maybe you should subsidize his order. :poke:

Yes, I do grow it and find it rather easy. I grow it potted with 56F minimums in moderate light. I've been a total failure growing it mounted. I find stanhopeas impossible to kill so can't say if these are of equal difficulty. It is certainly worth a try as the flowers are really incredibly beautiful. Though they don't last long, they do last longer than stanhopeas and stay small.

I was boarding the plant I photographed and grew it in the same conditions as paphinia and a few stanhopeas. It did well.

Marni, you have the best ideas. :)

 Only if Dale gives me a job...my current social work gig barely covers my own modest habit. Not quite sure I'm ready to underwrite an extravagant importation of tiny orchids that I can't tell apart from each other anyway. :poke:

Thanks! That sounds like something I can probably handle. I've admired this species for a while and this is the first opportunity I've had to actually obtain one.
