Any readers out there?

One of the things I miss about NYC is the booksellers. There were several good used book places plus a bunch of street venders.

 

I just came home with Carl Hiaasen's Scat. Should be a fun read.

 

Does anyone Kindle? I do, I love it.

 

Never tried it. There's just something about holding a real book that can't be beat.

 

David Eddings - The Belgariad and the Malloreon series. Didn't read any of his other series though. Those two series were my first "grown up" sets. I think I was in 5th grade... It was Animorphs and Goosebumps before that, cant believe I read those.

Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials Trilogy. Read those a few years before the first movie was made and of course the book is always better than the movie.

Just read Twilight and the other 3 books with it. Liked them a lot.

Eragon and his other two were really good. Cant believe Paolini was 15 when he wrote Eragon.

Most anything by Charles De Lint, Patricia McKillip and Anne McCaffrey.

And of course I'll never turn up my nose at a good romance.

I picked up Grisham's 'The Last Juror" last week. I haven't tore it up yet. I,m known for starting slow with and finishing by speed reading towards the end (Not like my sex life Jon).

I generally don't like Stephen King, but the raves here encouraged me to read DUMA KEY.
Seemed to me like all the other books he's written over the years...same format, different characters, spooky situations. I've been reading a series of biographies about
John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson...next is Alexander Hamilton.

 

MJ, I got several books by Pakastani, Afghani, Indian writers if you're interested, but
almost all of them are hard to read emotionally, especially for a woman.

Have written down Ursula Hegis for future reference. I'm still deeply involved with the
American Revolution at the moment and then a re-reading of all John Updike's books.

One I'll send you if you'd like to read it is MY FEUDAL LORD by Tehmina Durrani. I had
to send to England to get it. Apparently, the book never quite came to the attention
of American readers.

 

It's an acquired taste, but I truly enjoyed the entire Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brien. There are twenty novels in the series, with an incomplete 21st novel published by his son after his death. The recent Russell Crow movie, Master & Commander, is an adaptation of a few of the novels in this series. As it always goes, the books are much, much better than the movie.

 

I have finished Dan Brown's Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code last month. Starting his Digital Fortress now.

 

Hey Clark if you have liked Dan Brown then you should read his 'Deception Point'. That was the first book that I read from him. I loved Angels & Demons but the movie sucked IMO.
