I was just curious to see if anyone else kept any of these plants. I have a been intrigued by them since I was a child and I've always had a few in my collection.

Currently, I only have a few species native to Louisiana and Mississippi plus a VFT and Nepenthes alata but I would like to expand my collection in the future.

I don't grow any yet, I'm still adding to my bulb collection.

Two weeks ago I planted about 200 venus fly trap seeds spotted by a friend in Oregon. They could be pot seeds for all I know. We'll soon see what happens next.

The Savage Garden is an excellent book. You need it, goods! My partner enjoys carnivorous plants and I just tag along. We got a Heliamphora a few months back and stuck it in the cool house. It seems happy. I got to see some wild Darlingtonia recently and that was really memorable!

    T. migratoris, let us know how those seedlings come along :)

My best friend has been growing them since he was a baby. He more or less spent his summers from ages 11-18 volunteering with peter at California Carnivores - his collection is pretty awesome. He specializes mostly in Sarracenia species - honestly his collection of species is better than Peters.

    Here's some of his plants

I have killed a bunch of Nepenthes. I have two now and I think I have the feeding of these things figured out. Not too much but they need some.

I've read parts of The Savage Garden. When I purchased a Sarracenia from a local vendor, he gave me a copy of a few pages that highlighted their care. I'm lucky in that I live near the native range of many of the plants and can see them naturally. I would love to try a Heliamphora, but I would need a special growing area for it where I could control temperatures. I'd like to try the aquatic ones like Utricularia gibba one day but that doesn't seem readily available.

I've been growing them for about 15 years. I've grown a variety of genera in the past but I'm currently downsizing my collection to focus on species Sarra's, VFT's and tuberous Drosera. With regard to sourcing aquatic Utrics, have you tried any of the watergarden nurseries in your area? A lot of the watergarden nurseries in my area have Utric gibba growing as a weed amongst their waterplants. As Utric gibba has a fairly cosmopolitan distribution, I wouldn't be surprised if the US watergarden nurseries also have it in their ponds.

Utricularia gibba used to be very common here to the point it was a pest in the irrigation sumps. I haven't seen it in a few years, though.

I'll have to check into the water garden nursery idea. There really aren't many of those locally but I know of a few. Dale, I've read that we are within its native range (I think it's pretty widespread), but I have never seen it in any of the wetlands/ ponds locally.

I have been growing quite a few mexican pinguicula species and some terrestrial utricularia (sandersonii, livida, graminifolia) under a light rack system in my garage (along with my orchids). I have seen U. graminifolia referred to as an aquatic utricularia before, but I have always grown it potted in media. I grow a bunch of different Sarracenia outdoors.

You should be able to get some Utricularia gibba from Peter at California Carnivores.
