Hi Iris. I don't know about the underdeveloped flowers, maybe is due to some stress or maybe because it has a genetic problem. The best thing you can do is wait until it flowers again, since the plant is looking very healthy. I hope next time you'll have an even more amazing bloom.

Any discoveries on potting vandas so far? I got my first vanda (Vanda Chulee) two months ago and I have potted it (coarse pine bark + sphagnum moss in a 20cm transparent plastic pot with lots of holes for ventilation). I chose that setup because it's more convenient for me and I don't have space to hang it.

Even thought it has started to develop a flower spike, new roots are sprouting and it's not showing signs of dehydration (so the plant is not doing so bad), some of the old roots that used to be aerial are now dying inside the pot. I feared this happening from the beginning so I've been very cautious with watering, pouring only enough water to very slightly dampen the moss, so roots did not die of overwatering. I think it's the increased and constant humidity in the pot as well as the reduction of ventilation that have stressed the roots.

From what I've seen, new roots are supposed to get used to being potted since they are now growing from the beginning inside medium. So, from what I've experienced, aerial roots don't like to be potted because they tend to get suffocated due to the change, but in theory roots should be able to grow and do well inside medium.

I'm waiting to see if this is the case and hoping the new roots can live and thrive to sustain the plant. If anyone has more information on potting vandas it will be much appreciated. I've tried to search other threads in this forum and I don't know if I couldn't find it, but it seems nobody has talked about this topic so far.
