Ordered two tree fern totems (20" each), a few 20" bamboo stalks, and a roll of light wire over the phone. When asked about shipping, the seller said it will be shipped via USPS, and the shipping cost will be calculated later on. The order has been placed more than two weeks ago and I haven't received it yet (no tracking number either). Moreover, they charged me over $60 (!) for shipping. I assume it was an overnight service that is for some reason delayed for two weeks (joking). Contacted the vendor with my complaints to no response.
Is this the situation when I can try to partially dispute it through my credit card? It just doesn't make sense to charge $60+ for shipping and handling for a $40 order that is very light in weight.

I'm not excusing what is happening, but USPS prices went up recently and anything over 1 pound is calculated by volume if it is light weight. I don't think you can stop payment because of the shipping charge, but you certainly can for non-receipt. Not getting their money may get their attention.

    Thanks, Marni.
I guess I'll wait a bit more to see if they decide to answer my emails.

Rates did go up, but there is now way a package containing 20” items should cost that much.

If you do get the package be sure to check the weight (on the label) and dimensions. You can then calculate the actual shipping charge and see how much they added over that.

Just for kicks, I got a rate on a 25# box, 24" x 12" x 12" going from Broward to a random zip code in Chicago - USPS Retail Ground $55.80, Priority Mail $10 more.

At 10# and 24" x 6" x 6", which seems more likely, those two rates drop to $30 and $33, respectively.

Concerning a "partial" dispute, I doubt the CC issuer will do anything but dispute the entire charge. The last time I had a dispute, the issuer called the supplier with me on a 3-way call. They stated my case and I didn't say a word until I OK'ed the remedy.

The seller has finally responded. Apparently, they charged me for the items that I didn't order. Since I'm still waiting for my order to arrive (it looked like they just shipped it yesterday or today), I wouldn't know. I haven't seen the invoice either. They promised to correct the issue, so we will see.
