    Bulbophyllum alkmaarense
    Authored by: Jon

Description: species is found in New Guinea. It was described in 1911 by JJ Smith, and there is a profound lack of cultivation information available through normal channels.

    Culture:

    Temps:
    - Summer: 60-90f
    - Winter: 50-80f

    Light: Medium light

    Humidity: at least 80%

    Air circulation: Slight breeze

    Growing location: Greenhouse

Growing medium: Basket - Plastic, Mount - Cork, Mount - Tree fern, Mount - Other, Sphagnum moss

Growing medium notes: Growing on sandlblasted manzanita, but it would be much happier on a different mount. The roots do not attach to the manzanita.

    Water:
    - Frequency: Daily
    - Fertilizer & frequency: Daily with MSU at 1/4 recommended strength
    - Dry rest: No.

Blooming season: No defined blooming season

Flower size: White lipped clone has sepals of ~1cm. Yellow lipped clone has sepals of 1.5-2cm.

Plant size: Miniature. Pseudobulbs are <1cm, and leaves are <1cm. All told, the growths are a little over 15mm tall. A creeping rambler with approx 8mm between bulbs.

Other firsthand observations: Can be a finicky grower. Should probably not be grown as a potted plant unless space is provided for it to overflow the pot.

    Other plants growing well nearby:
    Lepanthes calodictyon
    Bulbophyllum dennisii
    Bulbophyllum catenulatum
    Aerangis punctata
    Zootrophion griffin
    Maxillaria tenuifolia
    Maxillaria marginata

All of the aforementione dplants grow and bloom within 4 linear feet of bulbo alkmaarense.
