    Bulbophyllum dischorense
    Authored by: Jon

Description: This plant comes from Papua New Guinea where it is found at elevations of about 3,500' ASL. Also known as monosepalum dischorense because of the fused sepals appearing as one.

    Culture:

    Temps:
    - Summer: 60-90f
    - Winter: 50-80f

    Light: Medium light

    Humidity: at least 80%

    Air circulation: Slight breeze

    Growing location: Greenhouse, basement

Growing medium: Mount - Cork, Mount - Tree fern, Mount - Other, Pot - Plastic, Sphagnum moss

Growing medium notes: I've found this plant does better on a mount than in a pot. It certainly flowers more frequently that way.

    Water:
    - Frequency: Daily
    - Fertilizer & frequency: Daily with MSU at 1/4 recommended strength
    - Dry rest: No.

    Blooming season: Spring, Summer, Fall

Flower size: Fused sepals are generally about 2-3" long atop an oddly fimbriate spike.

Plant size: A small clumping bulbophyllum. The largest leaves on any of my plants are about 4".

Other firsthand observations: The leaves on this species are a deep green on the top and a irridescent purple on the bottom. There are myriad small silvery streaks on the leaves. I grow multiple divisions of this plant in different areas, but the description given here is the most effective for me. Though it grows cooler or dryer or brighter, it doesn't flower in those conditions.

    Other plants growing well nearby:
    Gastrochilus species
    Bulbophyllum longissimum
    Dendrobium lichenastrum
    Dendrobium prenticei
    Chiloschista spp
