Here's the main image gallery: http://gallery.orchidspng.com/index.php

Here's a B&W drawing of rhodoleucum, couldn't find a photo of it on the site but some aren't labeled and I didn't look through them all: http://gallery.orchidspng.com/displayimage.php?album=31&pos=38

And here's a link to Wolfgang Bandisch's main site: http://www.orchidspng.com/.

    Beautiful plant, Marni!

Thanks, gnathaniel. I don't have a problem finding Bandisch's website. I just can't find the photograph that made me begin a failed quest for this species over a decade ago.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. Sometimes I forget that other people know how to use Google, too.

When I searched Bandisch's image gallery for 'rhodoleucum' the drawing was all that came up. Perhaps the photo was removed or relabeled?

The photos on IOSPE for Bulb. rhodoleucum are said to come from Bandisch's site and look very close to the drawing I linked to. They do not look to me much like Marni's plant. Then again, I'm not a taxonomist.

*sigh* I did find a the illustration on line, thanks. I was hoping for flower parts. It certainly doesn't look the same as mine.

The closest picture I've seen to yours, Marni, is the one of Bulb. peltopus (type for the section) on IOSPE. The sepals and lip look similar, though the photo (credited to Bandisch) is blurry and overexposed so it's hard to get a really good look.

Maybe you should just get Vermuelen and Bandisch together to hash this one out? ;)

BTW, looking through pictures of this section has made me realize I'd really like to grow most of them (and that I already have one, Bulb. intersitum). Thanks a lot for forcing me to expand my collection, Marni! :poke:

Thanks, Nat. It is hard to tell from the image, but definitely looks closer to peltopus than the drawing of rhodoleucum on the internet. Also, the dissected drawing of rhodoleucum that Jon sent me shows a wide variety in the cleft in the lip with 4 different lips represented. I haven't always gotten serious attention when sending images to taxonomists. I don't think it is personal, it happens to others. I don't think I have the time or energy right now to explore this very far.

As to helping you expand your collection: You're welcome. I think you should get them all!

    B rhodoleucum - Missing Image ???

Here’s an image I nicked off the Orchids png website a long time ago. I suspect it is the one Dale refers to and if so I would agree totally with Dale - your plant is not B rhodoleucum and if it is, many hours of lust were misplaced.:).

On a trip to PNG, we went to a known spot for rhodoleucum but sadly all that was left was a scarred tree as the plant had been removed.

    Yep. That's it.

"many hours of lust were misplaced."

    Damn it. :bang:

"all that was left was a scarred tree as the plant had been removed."

I was told the same thing by Bandisch.

    Thanks, Clawd.

Now that is lust-worthy!!! Thanks for the image, Clawd. This looks just like the dissected drawing of B rhodoleucum that Jon sent me. Maybe I'll ask Vermuelen again. What's the worst he could do?
