For those of us on the east coast, Jim's Orchid

Supplies is excellent. I ordered from them for the first time on Ein's
recommendation a couple of years ago. They do the fast shipping, no
slip-ups very well and I love their cork bark...nice, big hunky slabs.

 

Definately A+ on CalWest!

 

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks the quality of the sphag has declined.

 

I order most all my pots and baskets from them

 

Jon, et al - I have recently gotten in some cultivated sphagnum from Peru, touted as being NZ species. It is pretty nice - not 5-star stuff by any means, but better than the best of the Chilean stuff I have seen, and at least equal to the NZ stuff I picked up retail.

 

Ray, please let me know if you find shredded tree fern. CalWest stopped carrying it. And they no longer carry 3" tf pots :bang:

 

Dale, Tropical Plant Products in FL still carries a lot of treefern supplies. I've never mail ordered but I've seen them at Florida shows and their quality and prices always seemed good.

Thanks, gnathaniel. Being in business since 1973, not having a contact phone # on their website, and not taking credit cards causes me some anxiety. I'd like to hear from anyone that's had business dealings with them.

 

Hmm... that is odd that their website is so devoid of contact info. I bought a few things from them at one show (I remember b/c they're the only vendor I've ever seen carrying treefern chunks, which when hollowed out make great pots for micro-minis), but that was pretty cursory. They were nice people (I think it was a couple and their teenage children at that show) and I wished I had bought more at the time because their stuff was so cheap.

Dale, I don't "do" tree fern. I might be willing to make small EcoWeb pots for you. here's a 3.25" one - looks something like a little bird nest:

 

Thanks, Ray. I sincerely appreciate the offer but, as Marni indicates above, my true quest is the shredded tree fern fiber. A clay pot and shredded tree fern is almost as good as a tree fern pot. Right now I'm waiting to see how Tropical Plant Products customer service is. *looks at watch*

 

Dale what do you use the shredded tf for? could brake up tf placks or poles?
