Had this guy and health deteriorated over time and now its down to soon to be one leaf. Long spike, I had cut it back at one point and a nodule shot out had a couple flowers, fell off and then grew a little more. It literally has ONE root, a 1" small fat one, I took the orchid out cut all rotted roots off and left the one root, zip tied it to a spike for stability and there are two new shoots growing. Should I cut the spike off completely so all the energy goes into making new roots and leaves? or is this going to die regardless. I added some moss to hold moisture around the root but it has plenty of air, and there's some water in the bottom for moisture and humidity. ideas?

    Thank you!

Definitely cut the spike below the lowest node.

Marni's right! Cut IT Off. I would also go ahead and remove the yellow leaf as it is also draining energy the plant needs to recover. Also water just as soon as it becomes dry but do not let water sit in the bottom of the pot. If your humidity is very low you can place it on a tray of gravel and put water in that as long as the pot does not sit in it. Do not place the plant where direct sunlight will hit it. The one root looks very healthy and I have seen them come back when they have reached this condition before. Phals. have a great desire to live! Hopefully you will see a new leaf soon.

Thank you very much. I will remove the yellow leaf, it already sits on a gravel tray with water for humidity but I will make sure to drain the 1/4" of water inside the pot asap. I only did that cause i figured it would add to the humidity and not risk any root isseus as there are none to deal with. The3 plant never gets direct sunlight but will get great indirect light, they seem to do great in my kithen window i guess because of the hunmidity from the sink and contstant water from dishes and so forth. Thanks for the advice!
