Carnivorous plant grower- Looking to get started with Orchids

    Hello,

    I am a grad student (department of horticulture) at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. I primarily grow tropical pitcher plants (Nepenthes), but was given my first orchid, a Stanhopea tigrina v. nigroviolacea, a couple days ago when one of the university greenhouse managers was clearing out some space in the Cornell orchid collection.

    I am most interested in the Catasetum and Stanhopea - alliance genera. My favorite varieties I've seen so far are Stanhopea tigrina (a monster specimen is blooming in the Cornell orchid house right now) and xMonnierara x millenium magic 'Witchcraft'.
