I would like recommendations for carnivorous plants suited for the cool vivarium. Sooner or later fungus gnats will find their way in there too and I want to get them before they establish... yellow stickie traps are fine to use on the windowsill, but kind of ruins the abmiance in the cloud forest viv...

I was thinking perhaps some species of Drosera (Drosera capensis, Drosera madagascariensis) since they seem to be pretty effective gnat catchers? But I am not sure it could handle the frequent rain/mist from above and lower temps... Thoughts on that, and what species to look for? I like Pitcher style plants too (Sarracenia purpurea), but are unsure of their fly catching capacity? No non-orchid freeloaders in my viv, they have to work for their existence!

    Criteria:
    • Exceptionally good at catching gnats
    • Can handle temperatures down to 10 C in the winter
    • Likes it wet - frquent rain/mist
    • Looking cool (hairy, scary, or pitcher style) would be an extra treat...

    Sooo, recommendations please! :D

Look for any of the highland species of Nepenthes. They should do well in that setup.

I love pinguiculas, they come in different shapes, sizes and colors, they have a broad temp and light range, and are super gnat catchers and they don't like to dry out. The gnats are attracted to the scent on the slimy\sticky leaves, they stick and the slim desolves their enerds, love it. the only thing is that heavy over head watering washes off the slim and it takes a week or so to regenerate. They don't need to be in pots, they have a very fine root system and you can nessle them up to a plant or under a leaf. I have a few that I just set on a mount with an orchid, they are so cute! :)
