I would guess that the roots aren't in great condition?

How long have you had it and how are you growing it? Water, fertilizer, temperature, light?

I had it for a year or so and it is placed by the west window with the uv foil on the window. I can see new roots grow but not many. I water it when it's dry and I don't yet use any feed as I am scared I burn the roots but I have some at home which I have recently bought. Would you be able to advise please? I have another post with a problematic Cattley but different problem if you would be able to advise on that one too that would be fab. Thank you for help

Orchids need food. I think that watering with 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of fertilizer at every second or third watering would help the plant a lot. The more light a plant gets the more fertilizer it can use. I also would question whether the plant has a virus. A yellow leaf indicates not enough fertilizer or too much light, but the streaking pattern in the lighter leaf is troublesome. Be careful that it doesn't touch other plants, always use sterile tools when cutting it and don't reuse the water that drains from it to water other plants.

Thank you so much Marni for all your help. How would I help the orchid with the possible virus? Would you be able to have a look on the other post where I have put another images of Cattley orchid please that is my biggest worry and it is strange as all of them are purchased from the same supplier which is worrying. Hopefully I can safe them :(

Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of the virus. Plants can grow normally with it, but frequently the flowers will be affected and the growth will not be optimal. It is possible to test for virus with Critter Creek or other companies. There is also the possibility of transferring it to plants that are clean. I do notice that your plant is potted in a pot that is too big for. Orchids like to have a pot big enough for one or two years growth.

I sorry Marni do you mean the pot is too big or too small? Would you suggest to repot and get it tested for virus? Thank you so much for your help

Yes, the pot is too big. If you are going to test your plants, wait until you hear the results before repotting. lf they are virused and are not one of a kind, can't be replaced that you want to use in breeding, best to toss it and start fresh with a healthy plant.

It's really hard to get a test for orchids in UK it's crazy. Not sure what I should do.

I rescued a few Cattleya's from my sister that looked a lot like yours. They had basically lost all their roots and so the pseudobulbs were shrivelled and the leaves were yellowing. You might just have to wait until they develop a new growth before they look any better. Put them in the smallest pot possible and try to increase the humidity.
Hopefully they aren't virused. I don't have any experience with viruses so I can't say anything helpful about that.

Thank you Carkin, I have been in touch with other orchids friends and I think I will move them to smaller pot and wait if it will show new growth. Thank you so much for the advise. :)
