Cattleya hybrid?

Definitely a hybrid. Near impossible to give a name exactly. It has an Rlc Mem. Crispin Rosales look about it, maybe a hybrid from it. It would depend on how long the previous owner had it too.

 

I think Memoria Crispin Rosales is as good a guess as any. If it is an awarded clone (and I think it should be) there are some characteristics that might let someone recognize it, especially the slight flare on the petals. Otherwise you're never going to know for sure.

 

It looks like a lot of the catts I've seen in the Carter & Holmes catalogs over the years. I think it will be difficult to identify with any certainty.

 

When I saw this in person the colours were darker than in the photo and it reminded me of: Cattleya Penang 'Black Caesar'

 

I agree - looks like a Carter and Holmes hybrid - probably has C. dowiana in its background. In fact, it looks a LOT like this one, but who knows for sure:

You have a good eye, Marni! I didn't catch that the pics were the same. I should be more on guard! C&H has so many cattleya hybrids. It is a wond they can keep track of them all. At any rate, I suspect you will never know which hybrid yours is, unfortunately. Ah, the nonames! We love them even so. Cheers!

 

Blc. Muscadine Wine has Blc Lake Murray 'Mendenhall' as one parent. The other is Blc Eagle Island 'Sangria' AM/AOS. The pollen parent is a really dark flower and much sought after. I have a seedling of this cross in my greenhouse waiting to grow up. My guess is that the flower pictured in the original post is more likely to be Blc. Lake Murray 'Mendenhall' than one of its offspring. It has been extensively mericloned. Of course, it could also be any of the multitude of beautiful catts from Carter & Holmes. Please take note that there is a distinctive dark band down the middle of the lip on Lake Murray. I don't see it in the flower in the original post.

 

Well, she's a pretty girl--even if she'll never have an official name.
