I purchased this last fall and have gotten it through it's dry period apparently successfully. I don't know when I should repot it so it is in a fresh medium and what it needs in the summer.
It is putting out a new growth and there are some indication of some growth on the old canes, maybe flowers?
P3290181.JPG It is in a 2" net pot lined with coconut fiber, I can't determine what it is actually potted in but it doesn't seem good.
This is the first I have grown so small a plant and needing a dry spell. I don't know how to treat it to keep it alive, suggestions please.

See the new growth? This means it's ready to get adequate water. Feed and water when it's growing.

The spikes will be coming from the nodes where leaves fell. I think what your picture depicts is in fact spikes.

    DPfarr, Thank you,
I am also wondering if I should repot it, the medium it is in feels not very good, it is almost impossible to see it in the picture. If so, into what it is so small?
There are some indications of growth at the old leaf scars on both sides of the cane at the bottom of the picture.

Hi Anita, this is one that I've had for a while (from Andy). For me they grow best mounted as there is less chance that I'll kill them with kindness in the winter. It's easier to tell when the new roots are growing and that's when it gets watered nearly every sunny day. Also, this should be a good time to repot or mount, just before the new roots start.

Chuck, Thanks, I hadn't thought about mounting it, I don't know why. You are right, the way it is now I can't tell if it is growing new roots or not. I am assuming that it is because of the top growth.

Hi Anita, I would suggest mounting it pronto. A number of us tried to grow lamiyaea in pots and unfortunately the plant sooner or later carts it to orchid heaven. They are much more vigorous on mounts..I highly suspect their roots really like being exposed to air. Mount it with no moss and keep it in a place with good light, air movement and high humidity.

Here is an update from March, I mounted it on a piece of cork, it grew several new bulbs and the put out many beautiful flowers. It is now drying off this summers leaves and getting ready for it's winter rest.
