I have this plant from 2 sources. One is definitely from the Philippines with no name. The other is labeled Drch. pygmae which doesn't appear to be a valid name and no country of origin. It smells like coconut or coconut cream pie. For reference, the specimen plant is in a 2.25" pot.

For some reason, I don't care so much about white Dendrochilum but this one is awesome and I really like the look of the growth too.

Marni, I think it is Dendrochilum parvulum. Your flower looks identical to the one on "The Orchids of the philippins". I googled the name and found a photo of this species too.

Thank you guys!!! Now I'll have to get an image of the plant that was tentatively ID'd as parvulum . It's yellow.

Tom, you're not alone. I have a talk on Coelogyne relatives that include dendrochilums. I love the little white ones, so I had quite a few representatives. After the first time I gave the talk, a fellow came up to me and said "Good talk. But way too many of those pissant little white ones."

I did reduce the number of the white minis in the talk.

It should be white, Marni. The yellow one might be D. pulcherrimum.

I can't post a link here for some reason, but if you google that book or just Dendrochilum parvulum, a page of that book will show up and it has a photo and description of that plant and history. I like to believe the authors of that book rather than one or two photos on other "photo websites".

The yellow one I'm talking about is not D pucherrimum or smithianum, I also grow them and they have very different plant habits. The pucherrimum or smithianum are heteranthus (they emerge from a pseudobulb that never develops) where as this one doesn't). I'll post an image in a new thread.

Forrest, the minis I grow both mounted or potted, but the larger ones I almost always grow potted.
