Do I have a problem with this Catleya?

    Hi all,
This small catleya has been blooming reliably for me for several years. In recent months, a few of the leaves on a couple of the infloresences have gotten funky looking, as in the photos below. I showed a picture to an orchid grower I know, and she said she believed it was the result of sunburn, and that it was not a disease or pest problem. Also, after the last bloom, the infloresence that started to grow failed and dried up, which has never happened before. It's growing in the same conditions as always. I'm afraid there's something wrong more serious than sunburn. I would love your thoughts. The bottom photo is the plant in bloom a couple of months ago. Thanks for any help.

    Judy

Hi Judy this looks like sunburn and edema to me. These are due to growing conditions not pests or disease. Check the roots and Google orchid edema for some helpful pictures. Make sure your plant isn't getting direct mid-day sun. If you are windowsill growing the winter drop in humidity probably made things worse. If your roots rotted your plant will need some TLC. This is a good time to repot. Good Luck.

Thanks so much for your quick reply, Dale. I've repotted the orchid and there were quite a few dead roots, but thankfully also a lot of healthy ones and newer growth. Fingers crossed it will be ok.
