Forum Policy on Editing Thread Titles

There has been concern raised about how thread titles are handled in certain forums here. Corrections to genera or species information, to be exact.

Our policy going forward will be straightforward and simple:

If one of our moderators spots a thread that is outdated or has errors he/she will first contact the original thread author for permission to edit the thread title. He/she will then create a post within the thread stating the discrepancy between the thread title and what he/she believes it should be changed to. If no permission is given by either stating it or a lack of reply, the thread title will remain the same but the discussion of the topic in relation to the post about the discrepancy will be allowed to continue within the thread.
