Garage GH

O man does this bring back memories of about 20 years ago, I think we all go through this stage. Your doing good , My humidifyer was a cattle water tank with a fountian pump, Heater with an old milkhouse heater with cermaic towers it was the latest.

So, how many of your neighbors are wondering what you are up to in there?

 

It looks great! Hmm, I could do something like this.....

 

I think everytime I bring someone to my GH that is not an orchid person they are disappointed that I am not growing pot.

 

So why not?

 

That's strange Forrest, everyone I bring to see the greenhouses is an orchid person.

 

i work in a greenhouse and people think they're being clever and the first person ever to ask where we grow it....
like we'd tell them! i mean... ummm....

 

I like that a lot. Do you have any plans of ever having a greenhouse or is this sufficient for your needs?
My friends used to always talk 'you need a greenhouse'. Uh, no I don't. Thanks but no.
Maybe a nice sunroom with a floor drain....

It really has worked out well. It never gets really cold in the garage because of the heat ducts and we run a utility heater for the cat. And at 5' x 8' it is easy to keep the humidity up. Of course, we can't get a car in the garage but there's so much crap in there we couldn't before the GH! I still want to come up with something for the floor that would catch water so we could use a hose in there - like a giant kiddie pool!

I'm with you, Mary Jane on the sunroom. I'd love a space that you could hose down but still be able to use as living space.....with a big koi pond! Right now it meets our needs and gives us some room to start vegetable seedlings. However, the new light made such a difference that if things continue to do well I can see us revisiting the GH idea as the collection starts to grow again.

 

excellent job, and the orchids look so happy! do you have koi in your 'pond'?

 

We have koi and an assortment of goldfish. They go in the outdoor water feature during the summer but it isn't deep enough for them to overwinter in there. Besides that, I kind of like them; they're all named and were hand-fed last summer.

 

Are you gonna paint that pink refrigerator?

 

Eddie says its brick red and not to make fun of it. It houses over 200 bottles of wine.

So what are you doing later?

 

awesome. got your wine at arms length. Now all you need in there is a kegerator.

 

yea, well, not many people that I know locally are into orchids. but when people are over they get curious.

I also am usually pretty entertained by watching their reaction. I think they are picturing this GH bursting with Phalaenopsis and Cattleya flowers and instead they get miniatures, most of which you have to pick up and try to find the flower on.

 

Yeah, we used to get a lot of, "that's interesting". I never really figured out whether interesting was a good thing or a bad thing.
