Last winter I downsized from two large shelves to one smaller shelf, following a job loss and subsequent need to simplify my life. I thought about going back to the big shelves, but the plants I've got left (about a hundred) are actually doing much better and blooming more often now that they're crammed together: is it possible that the crowding has created more of an artificial "microclimate"...? Lighting is a four-foot, six-bulb T5 unit. Warm-mist humidifier on the floor in front of the shelf, and a fan helps distribute the mist a little. Even in the unused dining room, average humidity is still up around 50%. -Stephen

Beautiful, Stephen, your collection looks tremendously happy! Is that a Coelogyne in the plastic basket hanging off the front edge?

You're probably right, Dale, the genus name on the tag looks too long to be 'Coelogyne'...
