I am having great success - I love orchids, especially paphs and phrags. I set up a bakers rack with grow lights tied under the bottom of each shelf in a 5-shelf rack - creating a growing rack that you can pay a LOT of money for. Anyway all are doing great except one phrag. I'm going to take out and repot to see if I can figure out what's going on with it. I love my orchids!

One question I do have - will a Brassavola Nodosa do well in this?

Thank you for sharing your growing set-up. It's great to see how much space you've devoted to them and I'm glad your having success. Welcome to OI :) When did you get started with orchids?

That's a great little setup! I also grow indoors on one of those big bakers racks, and I've found that putting plastic boot trays (cheap from the big box stores) underneath helped save my floors. ;)

Looks to me as if you too are hooked on orchids.

I'm not the best one to answer your question since I don't grow under lights and I don't grow Brassavola nodosa, but my guess is that it would need more light. Perhaps someone with direct experience can answer.

:) I've been growing for about 8 or 9 years, took a 2 year break (at the same time of a breakup of course o_O) but I just really missed playing with them. I mist them daily, get as excited as a kid when I get a bud (which I have a new one on a Paph by the way) Yahoo! Thank you for the hint on the boot tray - I'm going to go get one asap! Not my floors and I do NOT want to pay to have someone else's floors refinished!

To buy one of these outfits already set up - is in the $500 or $600 dollar range. But with a little initiative....

I suspect that between the window light and your grow lights, you should be fine with a Nodosa - I have one blooming in a windowsill that doesn't get nearly as much light as I thought it would need. Great looking set up, and those are some happy plants.

I think we all started (or are still) growing that way. Eventually you run out of window space. Looks like a great collection. We look forward to seeing photos.
