    Hi there, folks. :)

I am a recent "returnee" to orchids; I used to have just a few NOIDs, probably only dendrobiums, quite a few years ago when my focus was mainly on my first love, bonsai. Then I moved around (including overseas) for years, giving away both my bonsai :)cry:) and my orchids, then subsequently a few smaller orchid collections along the way. Now I think I am at back to living in one country for the foreseeable future (well, maybe...) and seem to have developed a serious interest in species orchids. So, here I am.

I have well over 50 species orchids at the moment, although many are just seedlings. Hopefully I can keep them alive long enough to see blooms! I am very interested in Australian species, all miniatures, most Dendrobiums, and many other of the slightly weirder species (would love to get my Bulbo culture worked out, for example!). I am not really into the big foofy orchids such as Cattleyas, although I've seen some mini-Catts that have been interesting. I would love to acquire a few Masdevallias, but I fear the heat and humidity up here would be the death of them. :(

I do have a few NOIDs, but not really by choice; I've either won them at the orchid society raffle/door prize, or just been given them by friends or family. I look after them, but I just really prefer species.

Anyway, I look forward to sharing some flowers with you at some point!

    Cheers and blooms,
    Rae

Welcome Rae! You're in the right place if you love species. Dendrobiums are one of my favorite genera, too; in the top 3, actually.

Welcome Rae. I'm not as good as Aussie bulbos as I'd like, but I can usually grow the others pretty well. Maybe we can collaborate and share knowledge.

Hope you find that OI is a useful forum.

    Thanks for the welcomes, folks.

I've been having some hard drive issues but I hope to be able to post some photos soon. Among others, I have a Dendrobium lichenastrum just flowering again (although only a single flower) and it is so cute!

    Cheers
