I have had a long-term fascination with orchids and have grown a number of different kinds, but during the past two or three years my primary interest narrowed down to Cattleyas and then it narrowed down further to mainly just a few bifoliate species. I don’t have a very broad focus, but it’s insanely obsessive.

Many orchid grower have a problem, collecting more plants than they can easily manage. I have the same problem only with less variety than most. I have ten of one species alone.

I hope this new forum will do well and look forward to getting to know you guys.

    Vincent

Howdy Vincent! You seem suitably obsessive to feel right at home here.

Way cool. New folk. I hope to see you just posting the heck out of stuff here. Ask questions, tell jokes, show us photos of orchids, pets...anything. If it snows where you live, you must make a snow angel. It's sort of a rite of passage, you dig?

    Welcome Vincent.

I like bifoliates, too. Mostly because they do better mounted than the unifoliates. (Which is how I like to grow Catts.) Oh, and they typically give tons more flowers than the unifoliates. That's my experience, anyway!

    Welcome to OI!

I'm not pushing you Vincent but if you are interested, I would like to invite you to visit the Alamo Orchid Society right here in San Antonio. Our society has been in existance for over 50 years and we have a number of American Orchid Society judges in our number as well. Every month we have meetings beginining at 7:30 PM till 9:00 PM. Our meetings generally consist of a guest speaker, plant displas from local members, Orchid plant raffels, and light refreshments. Visitors are always encouraged to attend. There is no fee for meeting attendance and no pressure to join. It's informative event and fun to speak with fellow Orchoholics. Let me know if you are interested in attending our January meeting.

Welcome Vincent! You don't have to tell a few of us about obsessiveness. We are there already...Looking forward to seeing your pics. I like bifolates, but my obsession is with Bulbo species, followed by Maxillaria.
