Can someone tell me what is this on my phaleanopsis (?spelling). This thing started growing recently. Also it is getting new leaves coming from the side of the plant. I just received it for Mother’s Day and this started after it stopped blooming

    Welcome to the forum.

I think that is just a deformed flower. I can only speculate why it happened. Perhaps a newly forming spike was damaged or sometimes there is a mutation. It also looks like a terminal spike (a spike coming from the top of the plant) which is also not normal.
