Hi, I've been on a couple of other orchid forums and somehow just found this one for the first time. Don't know how I missed it before...

I've been collecting and growing orchids indoors and out in Northern California for the past 4 years or so. 80% of my plants are now cool to cold growing, or at least tolerant, and are outside year-round*, with the remainder grown on windowsills Nov-April.

    Oncidium, Odontoglossum, Cyrtochilum
    Dendrobium
    Laelia anceps
    Cymbidium
    Encyclia/Prosthechea/Cattleya/Epidendrum
    couple of Zygo hybrids

    * not 100% exposed to the elements

Best thing I've done for growing orchids was going to Valle de Cauca and Cauca depts in Colombia and seeing how they grow - at least there - in their native environments.

Hi, are you near the coast? That makes a big difference in what you can grow outside.
