Hey Y'all...

I've been reading old posts on this site for a few weeks now and would like to join the party.

I'm an Atlanta native in my late 20's. I went to school for BioChem but my real passion is middle-management and fixing computers... not really, but it pays the bills and buys the plants.

I've grown orchids for a about 10 years now, but have only been obsessed for the last 3 years or so. About 2 years ago, I purchased an Angraecum didieri, fell in love, and immediately started snatching up every Angraecoid I could find. I grow some plants in a terrarium, but most everything else grows in increasingly more populated windowsills.

I read everything I can get my hands on, but it seems that so much orchid knowledge exists outside of books and I look forward to the knowledge/wisdom/experience of others in this community.

Some are grown in a terrarium, but most are growing in windows with a little time spent outside. Some thrive, some only grow leaves, some hang on, and some have no business being in my collection.

Athens is a great town, as is Asheville. I think the culture is very similar in a lot of ways, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I am a member of the Atlanta Orchid Society, but due to schedule conflicts I've only attended 3 meetings since I joined in 2011. I will say that the people are friendly and inviting - the crowd runs the gamut from folks with multiple greenhouses and 30+ years of experience, to folks that think flowers are pretty and want to learn more (I'm the latter). The meetings are held in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, so you can always come in early and hang out in the orchid house.
