Well I am searching and learning I also have been growing orchids for 40 years and there is still one orchid that does not like me and will not grow ....guess what it is_________________

O.K. well it's been hot here so I never set my orchids outside not less its early spring and that would be like summer to most of you all lol just joking... well I have everything from neofineiteas to phal.

thats the one I am looking up to see if someone else is having the same problem it was fine then platttt.....

    I love all plants truly,
its been now 7 years I am disable in a wheelchair, a stupid drunk drive hit me I was walking and it dismembered my legs on impact so I really got back to growing my orchids and even try to pollinate. yep well this spring we will see. So when some one says walking is good for your heart don't believe all you hear LOL

hope to meet new people and maybe find someone that has the same problems with a few orchid I do. I have helped a few (I think) and I try to keep busy it heps this chronic pain.

let me know what all everyone grows love to know.

also guess the orchid that hates me no gifts included.....

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I'd say masdies or miltoniopsis -- those cool growers do NOT like hot southern summers -- I know that from personal experience. :D

    Hi juliann.

I believe that we can grow any orchid anywhere, as long as we can and will painstakingly provide the required conditions ...

Besides orchids, have you heard of 'Divine Straightening' ?
    Best Regards,
    Stanhopeus.

    Hi juliann,
have you been successful to flower plants of the Genus 'Stanhopea'
in your place in the south of the US ?

If so, which species did flower ?

Welcome to the forum Juliann. My guess would be Phalaenopsis. When I built my greenhouse everything prospered except for Phals and they began to rot. I have now mounted the Phals so the roots are exposed and water can't sit in the crown and all is well.

    YES Kelly
You are correct they say the most easiest orchid to grow as I been told was the Phal. but I can not grow any of them now I have tried them as house plants because I do not have a green house. but I do have some very small minis that grow very well for me, but as for the normal size ones they just die. Not a thing I do I can get one to stay alive. I grow every other orchard but this once sees me and just falls over dead.:(
I truly have just gave up on them and stopped buying them not less it is the small 3 inch ones. Weird huh? Do you have any orchids that you have trouble growing?

Nice to have et you and happy growing.

    Bye for now,
    JB's

My name is Mark and I live in the South too. I'm originally from New Orleans, La. but I currently live in Montgomery, Alabama. I've been growing miltoniopsis for about seven years with great success. I have all of my milts. inside in a spare bedroom. I grow them in cool pots made to grow cool growing orchids. I purchased them at Amazon.com. I grow the milts. under grow flourecesant(sp) bulbs that I purchased from WalMart. The bulbs are 48 inches long. I have a ceiling fan in that room that is on all day and night. These plants hate chemical fertilizers so I feed mine once a month with a very diluted fish emulsion. I haven't lost a plant yet and they bloom every year. I also grow phals in the same room. Outside I have about thirty Ascocendas and Vandas. I have them hanging in baskets under oak trees. When temps. go below fifty degrees. I bring them inside and put them outside the next morning on my front porch.. when spring arrives, the Vandas and Asco. will resume their rightful place under the oak trees. I water the Vanda type of orchids everyday and fertilize them once a week during spring and summer. I just had one that finished blooming. I tried growing milts for over thiry years and lost many plants. It wasn't until I met a grower at the New Orleans orchid show that sent me on the correct path. Milts. hate chemical fertilizers plus you have to change the potting medium once a year. I hope that this info. helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have another question about milts. It's been seven years and I haven't killed a plant. Before I met that grower, I must have killed over eighty plants over the years.
