I will be doing my "Home Orchid Sex! - Orchid Breeding 101" talk at the National Capital Orchid Society meeting on 4/19/09. The talk begins around 2 PM at the National Arboretum in Washington DC.

Here's a description of the talk:

    Home Orchid Sex!
Orchid Breeding 101…From Pollination To Flowering

The purpose of this talk is to educate your society members about orchid breeding and hopefully inspire your members to try some of their own breeding. This talk is from the perspective a home hobbyist breeder. The whole breeding process is covered in a simple, humorous way (i.e., not too much boring scientific or technical info). This is a PowerPoint presentation.

The topics that are covered in my presentation include:
    - Orchid breeding strategy.
    - Pollination the natural way.
    - Flower parts.
    - Pollinating an orchid flower.
    - Flasking & Replating.
    - Deflasking/Compotting.
    - The BIG THRILL-blooming your babies!
    - See the results of my breeding efforts.

    Hope to see you there!
