Troy made this photo of Ike about an hour ago.
Wow, it looks ancient. What was that thing under its chin?
"What was that thing under its chin?"
He looks just like my Grandfather.
Well, he does!
I think Ike is quite handsome...and so is Candace grandfather!
How old is he? Can he make a variety of vocalizations or is he
the strong, silent type?
"How old is he?"
I estimate 18-20.
"Can he make a variety of vocalizations or is he the strong, silent type?"
Damn if I know what that means! He can vocalize, but he doesn't
by choice? He's a talker...watch out? He never communicates with you? He only talks to his lady friends?
Ike's very vocal during mating.
do you breed them or do they just get it on?
"do you breed them or do they just get it on?"
Huh? I don't understand what you mean.
you said Ike is vocal during mating and i didn't know if you had a pair that you put together to get them to mate or if the turtle has a different 'friend with benefits' and you heard Ike then
i was gonna ask if you breed them to try to perpetuate the species or whatnot too....
I have one pair of sulcatas and they're housed together, mating at will. I used to artificially incubate 80-100 eggs a year but stopped when the economy took a dump and I wasn't able to sell all the hatchlings.
Troy made a nice photo.
he looks good for 18-20
I like his eyes especially!!!
Great photo. How is Juno doing?
Juno is doing well. Probably 130# now, or more. Great personality for a tortoise. As is typical for late summer, she paces a lot. Ike, well.... he's a male; breeds her all summer and sleeps all winter. I believe Juno is past her peak reproductive years. That's fine with me. It kills me to destroy eggs.
