Saturday night some psycho burned down my horse's barn with several horses in it. There was also about 2000 bales of hay and tack/horse supplies for 16 horses. It was so hot the new metal roof, that was put on after the hurricane two years ago, got all warped outa shape. Its still burning late Monday. What kinda maniac does these things? Luckily my horse Lacey was turned out for the night because the following day we were expected to have a heat advisory and then she would go back in with all the fans. Everybody involved with the farm is still sorta in shock. Sigh,,,,

This makes me very sad. I'm glad Lacey was spared, but those other horses...damn.

To answer your question, I don't know what kind of person does this sort of thing. It's infuriating. I hope they catch the bastard.

Thanks folks. There has never been any trouble at this farm for decades. Its definate arsen and there is a prime suspect. I just think that they coulda at least let the horses out if they had a grudge with the farm owner.

The horse insurance company insisted the remains of the dead horses were photographed Sunday,,,just to prove they were dead or something, which could have been done with a microchip reader. I couldn't bring myself to even look. Thankfully, their remains were removed early this morning, when the fire cooled down enough. So we buried them on the farm. May they rest in peace and run in kinder and happier pastures.

    How F)&^%$d up....

We are so sorry, our hearts go out to you.

When they catch the arsonist, they should treat him the same way, with total disregard for life. That Basterd...

I hope everything works out good for you.

Thanks folks. Your support means a LOT to me.

The arson police are hauling her sorry ass in tomorrow!!! They seem to have all their ducks in a row and I hope she is toast for a long time.

Poor Lacey was so upset Sunday and so relieved to see me and confused,,,,it was terrible. She was dripping wet with sweat and started screaming for me as soon as she saw me. Calmed down as soon as I reached her. Guess she is sure I'm her Mom. None of the other horses outside were upset in the least and they were right across from the fire.

Today I let her out to eat in that grassy area across from the lane next to the burned barn where she often used to go because the grass is so good. She walked opposite to what used to be the long side of the barn and turned and just stared at it like she couldn't believe it. Then, she walked around to exactly where the door used to be that led into her stall. I thought she was going to walk right into all that mess and its still really hot. Luckily I caught her in time. She is the only live horse out there that was upset when it happened and is homing in on her old 'spot'. :(

The farm owners insurance company says they aren't going to pay for damages even though they paid for the hurricane damage to the same building two years ago. I hate insurance companies. The owners can't afford to rebuild and are thinking they just may have to shut down the entire horse operation. That would be truely sad and I hope it works out for them. They are the nicest most hard working horse people I have met here and it is also the best place to keep a horse that I have found in Louisiana.

There are many flowers out where the horses died and many on their graves. The vet student that lost both of her beautiful Dutch warmbloods went home to her parents home in Arizona for at least a week. When the fire happened, she thought maybe her horses had broken out and went out back with the mares and she wandered around for hours looking for them out in the back fourty. :( Finally, the farm owners had to go out with the golf cart and pick her up. The firemen, police and ambulance folks treated her for shock. Just so unbelievable and our heart goes out to her and the other owners that lost their horses.

That's heartbreaking, Posey. God. Maybe some sort of victims' compensation fund will help pay for some of it. Or at least the lady & her insurance company could be sued for restitution. I know it would be a looooong journey, but horses aren't cheap. I'm glad Lacey survived, and I hate to hear about the vet student. Nobody gains anything from this situation.

This is just so unbelievable! I'm also amazed the suspect is a woman. Poor Lacey is going to need lots of love and attention to get past this trauma.

I hope she rots in jail for a long time. I suspect there will be some rather large cowgirls in prison that may want to teach her a few lessons on caring for horses.

To felony arson needs to be added a felony count of animal abuse causing death for each horse. There is also going to be a class action suit against her but it really doesn't matter because her mother supports her and she probably doesn't have insurance. I'm also going to push for the humane society taking her horse away immediately if she gets out on bail.

PS The farm owner had over 3500 bales of hay he made in there. Thats worth over $23000 here. He told me he looks at this mess and all he sees is all the work he put into building it himself. I've never seen him sad but the past few days he looks like a different person.

    Why'd she do it?

Will the insurance co pay for the loss of the hay? Why are they not paying for the building damage?

    Alexis, she did it because,,,,

she is an evil disgusting person

based on her text messages to the farm manager, shortly after noon on Sunday, it also might be because

    a. she is a pyromaniac,,,since she asked to come see it
    b. when that didn't pan out, she asked if the farm manager would take pictures of the dead horses, actually she fixated on one horse, because she had never seen a burned up horse

    OR,,,its anybody's guess

There is no insurance on anything because of a tiny print footnote, added in 2009, that claims commercial things aren't included in the policy. Never mind the fact that he wasn't going to sell any of those 3500 bales of hay since he has over 30 horses of his own.

    Its just a mess.

Thanks Karen!!!! I really needed that, big time. The farm manager wanted to have arial photos of the farm (which we thought would be nice shots of the entire place). Since I was the only one there with a working printer, I said send them to me and I'll print them out for you. Well, they sure weren't what I expected. They were the police crime photos which included graphic arial shots of each burned horse in horrible detail. I didn't look at the horses at the farm because I didn't want to remember them that way and now I can't get the damn images outa my mind.

Thanks MJ. She is out on bail and I'm a nervous wreck. Went to the barn twice today. The second time to put Lacey out for the night. Initially I was so grateful Lacey was able to have a stall after the fire; now I dunno. I feel like I'm being driven nuts by a nut. LOL. Pretty soon, if they don't lock that woman up, I'm just going to put Lacey way be gone out back with the broodmares I think. Either that or once the mess is cleaned up Monday I'm thinking of getting a camper and staying near the barns with my dogs doing periodic night petrols until the crazy woman is locked up.

Actually all the horses are out tonight and we have been keeping both entrances locked up with metal gates at night and the farm owner put big huge lights up on all the outside buildings. The mess was still smoking this afternoon too.

Do you know how much the bail was set at? I don't blame you one bit for being nervous. I hope there's some kind of restraining order?
