Lc. Gaskell-Pumila 'Azure Star' is blooming out in the greenhouse today. It comes from a primary hybrid of Cattleya gaskelliana x Laelia pumila, registered in 1918. The five-inch flowers are produced one to three per stem on a compact growing plant. The amount of blue/purple color in the petals varies on temperatures and amount of light.

Nice to see blue pumila dominance.

I am really enjoying some of the old time hybrids you grow. Some I remember from when I started growing and were in the collections of long-time growers, some I've never seen. Have you been growing these long or are they more recently acquired?

Hi Marni, Lc. Gaskell-Pumila 'Azure Star' has recently been mericloned again, and is widely available. I got this one just last year from Eric Michael Orchids at the MAOC. Many of the older plants of mine, especially the Cattleyas, come as divisions from a Classic Cattleya grower here in Nashville.
