Jon was over this last weekend and he helped me put lights up in my GH. Not for growing, but for hanging out at night. It is one of those things that once you have it you cant figure out how you ever did without it. Thanks again for the idea and the help Jon. I dig it.

Plus it makes for a nice glowing structure in my yard when the lights are on.

Woohoo! Glad you have light out there. It's really an underrated feature that I think a lot of greenhouse growers overlook.

Glad you like it Forrest. I hang out in the greenhouse during the day. Never thought about it at night. However, there is a light out there.

Are those drinking lamps or just regular lamps.

Honestly, I can't believe you didn't have lighting out there before this.

thanks folks. Day time is still preferred, as it isn't quite the same with the lights, but this way I can go out there after work if I feel like or check the status of a plant that I am keeping my eye on.

MJ, aren't they all drinking lamps?

Are ya gonna get one of those sparkly disco balls, or whatever they're called? That'd be a nice touch.

I have some rope lighting installed in mine. It's not bright enough to work by, but good enough to see well enough to get around. And the rope lighting is watertight so works well in a g.h. environment. I use it very rarely, though.

Looking good Mr M. You don't have as much slime on your walls as Jon though. I think the disco ball is a tremendous idea!

It would look great with Christmas lights for your little darlin' too Mr M, or would that scare the plants?

Looks great alright. I can't imagine how anyone could make do without lights in thier greenhouse. After working most of the daylight hours nighttime is the only time I have to make sure those creapy crawler critters are not making a salid bar out of my orchids.

I never forget after I built our first greenhouse, I wired in five four-foot florescents up at the highest peak (the roof was shed type design). Anyway It not only lit up my greenhouse but the next door nieghbors back yard as well. With no shade cloth installed and that brand new twin wall Polly te lights reflected off the trees in our back yard as well setinng off our house as seen from the street with a halo like appearance hanging over it. The nighbors across the street called to see if everything was alright. Now, some six years later, the lights have lost most of thier brightness and the shadecloth helps subdue the brightness as well. Still, it is plenty bright enough for me to check out the plants for night critters, and keep my records straight. I went with a much smaller light in the second house. Still it does tend to light up the back yard nicely. Last night the temps dropped down to 32 degrees (eat your heart out yankees)so just before going to bed my wife went out to check the thermostat setting to be on the safe side. Later on around 3:00 AM I got out of bed. I noticed that it looked really bright outside. After peeking through the curtains I noticed that my wife had left the light on in the small greenhouse. I guess I really should have gone out to turn it off, but then there was disturbing the dogs to deal with, securing the alarm system, getting dressed, and another bunch of other perfectly good reasons not to do it. So, I turned around got back in bed and pulled the cover over my head and went back to sleep. So now I gues I have my Dendrobiums, Vandas, and a few Catts totally confused about the time of year it is. I did sleep well though. :)

    just tom

:D I figure I will eventually do the same at least once or 100 times. Ultimately I think I would like to wire it with a remote switch that turns it on from my garage. Then if I forget to turn it off I dont have to go outside to fix it.
