Liparis bowkeri

    This is a very common specie in Kenyan highland forests and mostly grows in damp, mossy places in the shade. Personally I have not seen it in the wild on tree trunks, though according to the book Orchids of Kenya this is also possible and we grow a few like that and they do fine. It roots very shallow and even disturbed it is rather resilient. Leaves are glossy and when too much sunshine, or maybe a high C/N ratio, can be pale.

    Before the flowers wilt completely they turn a bit orange.

    Its amazing how similar the flowers are to new world species!

    I was going to say the same thing as above; Liparis is a remarkably non-divergent genus regarding its flowers. I guess the floral morphology works well for it!
