It is a great show and on top of that it is a great place to have a show.

    Too bad Ron...maybe next year

This show is getting bigger and better each year. If the NY Show is not coming back, the Longwood Gardens Show will be the biggest orchid show in NE.

    Have fun there, Tom.

There are some awesome venders listed, and I would loved to go, but just a wee bit far to travel!

    Thank Tom...I will ;)

The rumors I have heard is he NY shows will never be coming back and the SEPOS show at Longwood is definitely stepping up to the plate to take its spot as the best show in the NE.

I'll have to reserve judgement until I see the Longwood show but it would have to get twice as big to approach what the GYNOS show was. Hard to compete with the Winter Garden at the Finanace Center or tenting the skating rink at Rock Center. But Longwood would seem like it could be an pretty darn good venue!

Linda and I are talking about going on Saturday. We'll have a few hours to kill while the Yorkies are at grooming.

As for size of the show keeps getting bigger every year and with the venue of Longwood Gardens it has the potential to surpass GNYOS show...not quite there yet but give it time and I bet you it will be.

We are planning on being there Saturday too Eddie. If you seem me (picture can be found in What do you look like? thread) besure to stop me and say hello. This goes for anyone else who might be going. I will be with my wife and 2 daughters so I am sure I will be easy to spot ;)

The venue is certainly there. And I know there are some very bright and talented people in SEPOS. If the commitment stays strong, there's little doubt it can become a premier orchid event.

Ok, we'll be on the lookout.

Did you make it to the show today Eddie? We were there early and I thought it was great. Every year it has been getting a little bigger and this year they could not get all the vendors in the same building so they setup a tent next to the building. Since my budget was very limited I was only able to get a few plants using the gift certificate for Andy's that Jon sent me for the OI membership drive. (many thanks to you Jon!)

    I got:

    Hapalochilus alkmaarensis
    Trisetella hoeijeri
    Masdevallia bucculenta
    Masdevallia polysticta
    Masdevallia scabrilinguis

Masdevallia scabrilinguis is in flower but attached to a wood shingle. I am hoping I can remove it from this and either attach it to a piece of cork or pot it up.

Not a bad show although we didn't get much time to see the exhibits. My major issue is having to pay the general Longwood entrance fee. It's rather high when you're only there for the Orchid Show and the weather is not conducive to seeing the entire place.

I agree that is the only drawback to the show but we did spend a good part of the day there. My entire family loves visiting Lonwood. We are actually considering becoming members of Longwood as we would take advantage of visiting in the summer and Christmas at Longwood is a sight to see. The side benifit of this is getting into the show in Spring without paying and I believe it is tax deductiable!

It's an excellent idea if you go often enough - especially for a family. I was a member of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for years. Nice to be able to drop by whenever you have just an hour or two to play.
