This is the first actually flowering for this Lycaste hybrid. It produced buds last year, but they blasted when i went out of town.

Hopefully the other flowers wont have the odd petal defect.
I am slowly getting the hang of these lycastes. Previously I let them dry out too much thinking all Lycastes needed a dry rest when the leaves dropped. Now I cut back thw water when the leaves drop off a skinnerii related cross, but they never completely dry out. Next i will focus on keeping the leaves from spotting.. ugh!

Beautiful plant! I love the color combination of the flowers - peach sepals with creamy white petals and a darker labellum.

Lycastes can be a lot like Zygos in that the foliage is prone to bruising and spotting, with some plants showing more of it than others. Don't get me started on folding - one little bump and the growth looks like it's been stepped on. I'm very gentle with my Lycastes during their growing season, but I always find a way to mess up the leaves.

I take my lycastes outside starting in spring. So all kinds of things happen to the leaves... Wind, sticks, hail... Finding one of them or a catasetum on the ground is a regular occurrence. The tears and bends i can take. Its those spots that get me. I broke up with Zygos a while ago. The only ones i have left are just too spotted to even give away.

I just realized this hybrid has a name: Lycaste Memoria Mario Ferrusi.

Would one of the administrators update the post title for me?

A second flower opened a couple of days ago.

I love Lycastes, but there are few that can tolerate the heat of my locality.
