I'm sorry to hear that. It's so hard to find reliable contractors now a days. I hope you find a good one.

QUOTE="Marni, post: 102115, member: 147"]At this point nothing is happening. The carpenter had some health issues and is not returning calls or texts. Unfortunately (or stupidly) I took down the plastic on the walls, took out the benches and hanging poles since he was supposed to be ready to start. Next week I'll start the hunt for a new carpenter. Not a happy prospect since it took forever to find this one.[/QUOTE]

Wow, that is too bad. I am not a pro, but if I lived closer I would do what I could for you. I am remodeling my greenhouse at the moment.

Thanks for you good wishes. Tonight I have good news. The project is now scheduled to start next week. I would be very happy if it did finally get started.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I have a shed but don't know if I will continue to live in this house when my husband decides to retire other wise I could add a very small greenhouse. In the meantime all my orchids are in my Carlona room. I am running out of space.

Another update. After a week of no show and no word, I have given up on the first carpenter and have engaged a new contractor and the job is supposed to start mid-October.

Marni, I am sorry to hear that! I am sending you wishes of a smooth construction from here on out.

How are your plants holding up that have been moved out of that greenhouse?

Thanks, Nikki. I've got two greenhouses that are overfilled with all of the plants that came out of this one. I've been adding fans to help with the air circulation. Just too many plants. They will surely suffer some, but it has already been over a month so another month shouldn't be devastating. I just hope this one shows up.

Had the yard cleaned around the old greenhouse last night and am ready for things to start. The carpenter is coming on Monday so things may actually get done. He will not be working alone so hopefully it will move along quickly. If I can't find a plumber quickly I will be moving the RO system myself. I put it in, but I'd rather have someone else do the work. So here is the cool greenhouse before things get going. On the left in the first picture is the intermediate house. In the 2nd picture you can see the little shed that the greenhouse is built around that will get torn down. The larger brown building will remain and the new gh will be attached to it.

    Just to know.
How many orchid plants and orchid species do you have?

I'm not really sure. A friend estimates at least 5000 plants. That was before I started growing so many seedlings.

Wow, 5,000 plants, that's great! You could charge for educational tours, once your new greenhouse is finished and then sell flasks and seedlings!

Here it is ready for demolition. The carpenter is coming tomorrow to get started. The RO system has been moved out of the little shed and installed in a (hopefully) permanent location inside the workshot on the left.
