Hot coastal Puerto Rico is the cementery of Masdevallias, as people buy them, struggle mightily to keep then alive, only to see them die when the dry, furnace like days of summer arrive. I was surprised to find on thriving and blooming Masdevallia on the orchid house of a friend. Of course it is no ordinary orchid house, it has automated watering, a strong degree of ventilation and other niceties not found in the average orchid collection. It also helps this species is warmth tolerant, or perhaps hot tolerant would be a better term.
