This is labelled Masdevallia mendozae, which it is not. Any ideas?

    How about Masd. morochoi?

It has broad orbicular lateral sepals with short tails and longer dorsal sepal tail.

Reference: Luer, C.A. (2002) Icones Pleurothallidinarum XXIII - Systematics of Masdevallia – Part Four. Missouri Botanical Garden, Missouri.

    Cheers.

Thank you Carl, Gary, and Marni for chiming in. Marni, the plant is about 6 inches tall. I had thought maybe hirtzii, but something about the dorsal sepal doesn't seem right. Masdevallia morochoi might work, I'll have to keep digging. The flowers are surprisingly long lasting.

My M. morochoi leaves are about 1/2 that size and I've had it many years.

    It could be a hybrid.

    Marni, that's my guess too.

Now a hybrid seems more likely - not Masd. morochoi

Here is my Masdevallia morochoi for comparison. Leaves are just 3" tall.

This is Masdevallia Cornet, a primary hybrid I made in the 80's. It is M ignea x mendozae.

    I think it is a 'Maui Lollipop'. M. mendozae × M. 'Angelfrost'.
