There are about 30 different Masdevallia's species for sale from Ecuagenra via an ebay seller in the states. Low shipping and the prices are pretty low too. All are around $15 + shipping. If you want his ebay seller id PM me. Take Care,
    Jack
PS - I've bought 2 different times from him and have no complaints.

I know who you are talking about and there is an opportunity there but it needs proper evaluation. It's all about Ecuagenera. I can add an order to the group order of my orchid society and receive the plants at exactly the listed wholesale price. Our orders get big enough so that ALL shipping and other charges are waived.

This vendor brings in all kinds of Ecuagenera plants, not just Madies but the whole gamut. Part of his description of the plant is a link to Ecuagenera. If I want the plant, I click that link and immediately find out what the wholesale price of the plant is. That price will be the maximum I'd be willing to pay for that plant. Often his asking bid is the same, sometimes even less. IF I get the plant for that, he allows you to sit on a plant for a month in order to get the multiple shipping discount. He absolutely does not attempt to make money from shipping, if you get 3 to 5 plants together, the average shipping is about $3.00 to $4.00 each. I have to decide if I want to spend the extra for immediate gratification or wait for the group order where there is no shipping cost at all.

The plants arrive in good shape, typical Ecuagenera, wrapped in brown tape with moist moss inside.

If you don't have that group order opportunity, the calculation becomes different. You still look up the actual cost of the plant then add $4.00 for shipping, $3.00 if you order 15 or more plants. In addition there is a USPS charge of `$12 to $15 as they bring the plants to the next US show and then send them priority mail to you. If you say get 10 plants from Ecuagenera additional costs will be $40 plus $15 or $55. Add that to the price on Ebay and that's how much the plant would cost you from Ecua. If you get it for the wholesale price, by the time the vendor adds shipping it's probably fairly close in price.

I have been amazed that people bid plants up to the mid twenties when the Ecua website tells them that they can be had to $15 or less. Never the less I check his site regularly and usually find a few gems. I have had very rare occasions when a plant did not look good, he immediately issues a refund, I can definitely recommend his business ethics.

One more minor wrinkle I forgot to mention is that Ecuagenera has the annoying habit of charging you 4% if you pay with PayPal. At checkout, if you buy plants from them request to pay with check. You will be given a US address to mail the check to, no additional charges.

Thanks Nick...I saw your reply the other day and thought I replied then but...oldtimers got the best of me. Thanks for the post. Lots of good info. I met Ivan Portilla from Ecuagenera at the Atlanta meeting in May or June and wish I knew then what I know now. Alls I could focus on were the Emelias Arias (kovachii) crosses he had and had to blow all my money on them. They were a good deal though. He had tons of these Cattleya maxima clones that he was pushing and I don't think he was selling very many Pluros and such. The guy I was telling you about in my original post is now selling more stuff from him in the Plurothaloid family like more Masdys, and Lepanthes and some others I can't remember but if you want some Ecuagenera plants at a reasonable price now would be a good time. I got another Masdy Cheryl Shohan and Pinocchio with a Pluro allenii. Kind of deviated from my species oath and got a couple of nice hybrids.

If Ecuagenera plants are of interest to you, it's worthwhile to keep an eye on this vendor. Just had an experience involving Lepanthes ingridiana. This one has a large yellow flower and a large nauseating price. Ecua has it listed for $100. I have been looking at it and for it for a while. I'm just putting together an order through the San Diego Orchid Society and decided to bite the bullet and get one.

Out of the blue I see it listed with this vendor for $44.50. I double checked to see it Ecua has dropped the price and found that it is 'no longer available', but the price is still $100. I put a bid in and got it for the asking price. He states it is a 'left over' from a fall order, is established and making a new leaf. Good enough for me, let's hope it thrives.

    Nick.

Nice Nick! I almost bid on that one too. I think it was also in bud if I remember correctly. Hopefully, it will be successful for you.

Not me! I hate bidding war. Plus, I'm still hoping the keiki I have now will be the real thing. Serious though, I would pay $45 for a nice Lepanthes species anytime.

WOW! I ALMOST had a lot of competition! I had considered posting on this prior to the end of the auction but thought better of it.

I learned from the vendor that he has one more, 1 1/2 leaves plus 1 new growth, same price if anyone wants it. Since you obviously know who I'm talking about contact him directly or email me.

Never grew it before. Have it in a cold house 55F at night under 80F day, 80% humidity. RO water, MSU fertilizer, water every 2 days. Fairly good light. It's in moss. Holy water every Sunday.

Yeah...It is pretty big......not. It's really a scrawny thing. You'll probably laugh at me when I show it here, but it's just one of those things where my addict took over. I'm powerless.

Tell me about it. I have 33 plants crammed into a wine cooler. Even if it is tiny, there's no room :(

The fundamental law, which supersedes all other laws, applies:

There is ALWAYS room for ONE more.
