Maxillaria speciosa

    This plant is Ecuadorian and I've had it since 1999. Since then I have acquired several from Colombia and lost most of them. This is the only one I can bloom. Wonderful fragrance, large flowers, worth the effort. The dorsal sepal is about 3" long.

    Awesome, Marni! The color patterns sort of make me dizzy, in a good way. Thanks for the plant shot, too, nice to see the growth habit. Whole plant about 25-30" tall w/ pot?

    I absolutely love the spidery, spotted flowers. It's nice to know that these beautiful flowers have a nice fragrance, too.

    The plant is 30" tall (not including the pot).
    Yes, Mikael, it is a bit gawky. In the greenhouse there are a lot of other plants to cover that up so I don't notice it. I would try chopping it up but they seem so sensitive that until I have seedlings I am loath to touch it.

    Superb plant - great display!!
