I have recently discovered that almost my entire collection has mites. I had been treating a few plants for the mites, but somehow they spread to literally every one of my plants.

There isn't any damage that I can see as of this time, but I do not want to take any chances.

I have already tried neem oil and another oil that claims to kill mites, but they have proved ineffective.

What is an easy and inexpensive way to get rid of mites?

Rather than easy and inexpensive treatment you might want to look for effective. I would recommend Avid as the first choice. It trans-locates through the leaves so you don't need a direct hit. Talstar is another choice since it is also a broad spectrum miticide and some people alternate it with Avid.

    Good luck Chris.

Can someone post a photo of mite and/or false spider mite damage on orchid leaves, please. This would be very helpful for me.

Avid definitely works, but don't rely on it forever, as mites will eventually develop resistance (and then they get extra ravenous!) Best to rotate with Forbid and other miticides. Forbid costs more, but the upside is that it doesn't smell so awful (regardless, a respirator and protective clothing should be used, as per instructions on the bottles).

Danni, the orchid girl on YouTube, recently had a spidermite outbreak. She tried all kinds of pesticides and remedies to no avail.
What she found worked was hairspray. She sprayed the hairspray all over the plant and then washed it off a few days later. The hairspray effectively suffocated the mites and killed them. No resistance build up because who can resist being suffocated?
You can find her videos if you search "orchid girl spidermites " on YouTube

AzaMax, which is a non-oil-based product containing azadirachtin, the active indigent in neem, is an excellent insecticide and miticide.

Informative and useful. Thanks 4 the valuable information.
For Dendrobium, new buds and growth damaging insects can be controlled by spraying diluted (2ml in one litre water)CONFIDOR(IMIDACLOPRID 17.8% SL)(Systemic insecticide), if the attack is severe.Otherwise Bio Neem is good. It is comparatively harmless.

This is an old thread asking for miticides , Confidor is not one.
