These are my Dendrobates auratus "El Cope". I recently got a trio of these. I also have a trio of Ranitomeya lamasi "Orange". These are shier, so I'll try to get a good picture of these later.

Frogs are way cool, especially the psychedelic type.

    Thanks everyone!

Jon- I've seen all your posts on here of your frogs and you had quite a collection of rare species/ morphs. What caused you to get out?

If you ever want to try again, I can work out a deal with you once mine start producing!

Both times it was the PITA of flies and the condensation such that I never got to see the animals. My tanks were CONSTANTLY fogged over which led to algae issues on the glass. Yeah... I know... there are ways to mitigate that, but I never quite had the patience to work with them.

Oh yea... I am seeing that as a problem with my auratus tank. I am using a vertical kit for the lamasi and the top has a small amount of screen. This keeps the front of the tank clear all the time except right after I mist. How big was your collection at its largest?

I guess I had probably 30 frogs at one point, though 10 were orange lamasi, including froglets.

Oh wow! I have heard they were very prolific once they get started.

Well that can be a good thing. I have a few people locally who have showed interest in a trade once mine get going. I saw you said you kept vanzos. How was your experience with them?

They were pretty easy, bold, and vocal. Apparently I had a weird combination (3.2 or something), so there was some aggression. Once they were split out, the guy who purchased them got tads almost right away. If I were to get more frogs in the future, I'd start with vanzos.

Thats good to hear. Those are the ones I would really like to get next. I know two people locally and know of a third one who have vanzos. I've seen the collections of the two people I know and their vanzos have always been hiding. I was afraid they were a shy species, so I'm glad you had a different experience.

I had 5 in a 56g tank. The amount of real estate might have something to do with their boldness.

That might explain it Jon. I think when I get mine I only want a pair, and I plan to put them in either a 20 high or a 29.

Here are a few more pictures:

The first is the tank where I keep my lamasi. Picture 2 is of my friends D. tinctorius 'Citronella' that I'm frogsitting for a while and the third is a 20g tank that is planted and waiting for me to decide on inhabitants.

Finally got a good picture of one of the lamasi. These are beautiful frogs. I just wish they were out a little more.

He's gorgeous! I'd be bummed, too, if I rarely got to see 'em.

Very nice! I love the R. lamasi, the pattern and colors are great. Speaking of dart frogs though, have you ever met/heard of Justin Yeager? He's a PhD student over here at Tulane and he does his research on sexual selection of dart frogs in Bocas del Toro, Panama. So it goes without saying that he's nuts for dart frogs haha.
