An easy to grow plant with bizarre flowers , and that's why I like it!
The flower reminds me of those toy monkeys playing the cymbals ! IMG_5220 (1024x777).jpg

Very nice, Spiro. Mine is getting ready to bloom, too.

Post a picture of the flower when it does David; I'm curious if there is much variation.

    Spiro,

Here is a recent photo: Myoxanthus10.jpeg

And here is one from a few years ago, when the plant was in better condition:

    Myoxanthus reymondii.jpeg

Some of the differences may be due to when the photos were taken in the lifetime of the flower. Certainly a weirdly beautiful flower.

    Spiro,

Our flowers are distinctly different and I can find online pictures similar to each of ours, with both identified as Myoxanthus reymondii.

    Time to do some searching....

Does it use mimicry to look like a slug or such? wow!

Yes ! As I suspected, there is great variation.
I also wonder if we are dealing with different species.

I dont know if a slug would help it to get pollinated :), but certainly it mimics some insect , maybe a fly ?

David, while doing some searching, I think your plant is M.cimex found (so far)
    only in Colombia.
The flowers look similar but not identical, the leaves on your plant should be more oval than mine which are very thin.

    Spiro,

I think you are correct. Another case of a mislabeled plant. Many thanks for the correction.

LOVE THIS SPECIES!!! The spots and the the big, bulbous tips of the petals are soo cool!! I like the scruffy stem sheaths too! Great plant.
