I've been growing orchids for several years and have usually grown catts and those of its alliance. Recently I thought I'd be a little daring and bought a Neostylis 'Lou Sneary'. I've never grown this orchid before. It is in bud with 2 spikes. Might someone be so kind as to offer advice to the proper culture of this plant? I grow them in S/SW facing windows.
    Thanks.

Hi leeflea. Welcome to the forum.
I wish I had your answer but, for reasons unbeknownst to me, I've never had much luck with this orchid. Just thought I would say "hey!" and possibly get the attention of other forum members who DO grow this orchid well.

I just bought Neostylis 'Lou Sneary' Bluebird so I'm also wondering how to treat it. Mine came potted in bark

Grow it like Cattleya, maybe a little bit more watering. However, treat it like Neofinettia in the winter--slightly cooler and drier.

Harry, Bluebird is the clonal name. It is a good bloomer too.

    Neostylis

I grow Lou Sneary as well as Blue Bird, along with Neos and Darwinara. I find the Neostylis like it a little less bright, I've tried growing them in moss, bark and coconut, seem's to do best in med to lg bark depending on the size of the plants. It make's really thick root's that like to travel, making it a good subject for mounting. As a mature plant I have found it to be free blooming, with the flower's lasting a good 6 to 8 weeks. Out of the plant's I've listed the Lou Sneary is probley my favorite, the delightful fragrance is a great bonus, there will always be room in my grnhs. for these rewarding plant's!

I guess I have the 'Lea' variety. It is pink and has no fragrance. The only reason i got the thing was for the supposed fragrance. But at the time I didn't know it was the pink type. Anyway, I agree on the 'catt light'. Mine grows like a weed under high fluourescent light. Drench then dry on the watering. They seem pretty easy. I'd trade mine for a decent Ang.

Mine grow in pretty strong catt light. (I have Lou Sneary 'Colorful Blue' and an unnamed generic pink form. 'Colorful Blue' is the better bloomer of the two and has a great fragrance)

One is in a small basket and the other is in a 4" pot in a very coarse mix. I let them dry out a bit more in winter, but I tend to let them dry out anyways before watering. The temps drop in winter, so they usually spike in the spring and often again in the fall shortly after the temps drop.
