I saw three NOID vandas at King Scoopers for $5 and I couldn't pass them up! I opted just to get two and they are a very decent size. I have them hanging this way because the purchase was so spontaneous and I didn't have anymore string. Is it possible to leave them this way? I still can't believe what a deal I got. It makes me sad that there is still one left at the store for no one to take her home. I can't wait till they bloom, hopefully next year so I can see what their flowers look like. is your only light coming thru that window? they need alot of light and high humidity. plants normally grow towards the sun, i think they'll start turning towards the light. nice looking plants at a great price. bob

Mandy, $5 Vandas is a real steal. Congratulations.
It won't hurt the plants to hang like this. New growths will start growing up and toward the light so you would eventually wind up with a plant with a horseshoe curve. For the long term I think you would be happier using a 3 or 4 wire hanger so that they stay upright. My bigger concern is the same as Bob stated. Vandas like lots of light, warmth, water, fertilizer and humidity. Being bare rooted like this they will need to be watered daily

Thanks, unfortunately the window is the only light source, I will go buy some wire tomorrow to let it hang more appropriately and for it to get more light. On warm days I will mist 2x a day. Colorado weather is crazy right now, we had snow yesterday and then today it's in the 70's and beautiful.

The other vanda isn't doing much, it may be sprouting a few roots but very slowly. I don't know what the flowers will look like so I am pretty excited. These are my first ever vandas and I am so happy they are still alive. I initially thought I would just hang then but I had to water every morning and it was a little too much, now I water them like every three days. I hung the lights near the window so they can keep that area warm and the heater is right below this window so that keeps them warm too. How long does it take for this vanda spike to bloom?

It bloomed! It's hard to take a really good pic bc it is white. The flowers are green and fade to white on the top :) ImageUploadedByOrchidsForum.com1424358879.009877.jpg ImageUploadedByOrchidsForum.com1424358892.409951.jpg

Yes, the $5 ones. This one is doing fantastic, while the other one is barely getting by. I remember when they got these in, I was so excited to have them discounted bc originally they were $40 in bloom. I vaguely remember this one, which means the other one will be colored pink or purple.

The link above shows the roots developing on the stubborn vanda :) its finally growing roots like the green/white one that bloomed. Hoping for a spike soon :)
